manual lymph drainage

About

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a procedure traditionally designed to treat swollen lymph nodes, applying a gentle massage to the body’s tissues in order to eliminate excess of toxins and fluid. This treatment also helps speed up recovery after cosmetic surgery i.e. Vaser Liposuction by accelerating the healing process. This light massage has many benefits to aid the body’s recovery process.

Commonly used after liposuction procedures

The procedure involves deep breathing techniques at the start and end of the treatment. This helps open the deep lymphatic pathways helping you relax but also helping the healing process by removing waste and toxins.

The procedure also has many other additional benefits for patients as follows:

  • Can strengthen the immune system as part of a detox treatment.
  • Help with post cosmetic surgery recovery reducing swelling, pain and bruising.
  • Chronic lymphoedema and lipoedema.
  • Is known to help with conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, acne, scleroderma and sinusitis.
  • Speeds up recovery after fractures, sprains and ligament tears.
  • Lessens pain in sore areas.
  • Relief for swollen ankles, puffy eyes and swollen legs.
  • Aids the healing of wounds and helps improve the appearance of scars.
  • Reduce water retention

FAQ

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The procedure itself also referred to as MLD is effectively a light, skin stretching massage that aids the movement of the fluid within the body to help repair areas that need treatment. The treatment is often prescribed before any cosmetic surgery and also after a surgical procedure has taken place. This is because MLD allows the lymphatic system to peak so that it is at its optimum before and after surgery.

HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE?

The treatment generally takes from half-hour to one hour to complete however this does depend on the number of areas and the size of the areas that you require treating.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

The Manual Lymph Drainage sessions will require you to lie down on our treatment bed and remove certain clothing in order for us to be able to massage the treatment area. You then simply relax and let us lightly massage. The treatment doesn’t require any additional oils or powders so is suitable for all skin types.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

There are generally no negative side effects associated with Manual Lymph Drainage and it is usually completely fine to eat before and after treatment has been administered. However, what you will feel after the treatment is a sense of relaxation.
